The elastic limit of the metal is strained once, and deformation begins. Following this process, the punch starts to push the material into the die cavity, and during this process, the material begins to separate as a result of the cutting action.

After the separation, the material resists at the cutting edges, and the punch shears the material to cut it. The material then no longer resists the cutting, and the process is completed. With a little more push from the punch, the cutting process finishes with a fracture, and the separation stage is achieved. So, why are cutting dies used?
